Backup/by=owner

I am trying to backup my whole directory structure whilst keeping the correct permissions.

From what I have read we should be able to use the command below

$ back/log [.rkersey...] /by_owner=original rob.bck /sav/lis

I keep getting the following error

%BACKUP-F-INVQUAVAL, value 'ORIGINAL' invalid for /BY_OWNER qualifier

Why?

Thanks in advance

Rob

Re: Backup/by=owner

Hi Rob

/BY_ONWER with ORIGINAL as value is only allowed as an output file qualifier.

Used as an input qualifier, you have to supply a UIC. If you specifc /BY_OWNER the UIC from the current process is taken.

Re: Backup/by=owner

the /BY_OWNER qualifier is not required in this case to correctly save the ownership of the files. This qualifer is used as an input qualifer to select files to be backed up. As an output qualifier (on a restore operation) /BY_OWNER=ORIGINAL requests that the files are restored with their original ownership.
