CIFS 1.2 Raising Domain Functional Level

We have CIFS 1.2 installed on some OpenVMS servers here and they are configured as Member Servers. The primary domain controllers are 2008R2 and the administrators would like to raise the domain functional level to 2008.

Will this cause any problems for the OpenVMS servers or should I advise them not to raise the functional level (as I understand it, we cannot lower it after it has been raised)?

I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this anywhere I've been searching.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Re: CIFS 1.2 Raising Domain Functional Level

Andrew,

There is an issue with Kerberos encryption types used in CIFS 1.2, when joining the W2008 R2 domain in ADS mode.
There is a fix to overcome this.

Please log a call with your HP service desk to receive this patch.

With this patch in place CIFS 1.2 will work normally in a native W2008 domain
