CMOS battery-Alphaserver DS10

Sir,

When I am booting my Alphaserver DS10 a message is coming тАЬINVALID SYSTEM TIMEтАЭ .After entering into BIOS setup it is showing CMOS Battery problem and advices to replace the same. Unfortunately I am unable to search the CMOS battery on my motherboard. Could anybody help me to give some clue to replace the battery.

Thanks in advance

Re: CMOS battery-Alphaserver DS10

curiously the battery is not listed as a replacement part for the DS10.

Is there a Dallas RTC chip?

Re: CMOS battery-Alphaserver DS10

Deepak,

Please refer to ITRC thread # 1256015 (http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1256015) and Hoff's web page on the subject (http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/441).

I have a step by step procedure to replace the offending part (the Dallas RTC chip) but the file is at home and not with me. I can provide the info later.

Thanks Chan,

I could get only the following details

http://www.hp-store.com/PD_07720.aspx

Prom, PTN 256K CMOS SERIAL OTP 3.3v (SROM) 23-034V7-00

But I am unable to see the physical location on board...

Re: CMOS battery-Alphaserver DS10

Take off the top cover of the DS10 and locate the fan in the front. Just behind the fan is a large black plastic covered pc board and just behind that you should see a rectangular part marked "DALLAS" on it. That is the RTC that needs to be replaced. This is inserted in to an IC socket and can be carefully pried up out ofhte socket. Please note the orientation of the part so that the new one gets inserted correcty.
