CMS History - Urgent!!!!!

Hi

I have a HISTORY.DMP file and I want to restore it back as 01CMS.HIS file.
But when I replace it back in the directory and run CMS SHOW HISTORY command.. I am getting the following error message: -

cms show history
%CMS-W-HISNOTSTM, history file record format is not stream_lf
%CMS-F-BUG, there is something wrong with CMS or something it calls
-CMS-F-INVHISREC, Invalid history record
-CMS-F-QTEXT, " 10-NOV-2005 16:07:57 O_RAVI COPY ELEMENT/LIBRARY=ROB1_DISK:[CMS.LIB_SUP_17] ABIS_FO_DCEONLYRPC.ACF ABIS_FO_DCEONLYRPC.ACF "Copy from sup_17
""

Can any one please help??

Re: CMS History - Urgent!!!!!

Thanks for your reply Mark.

I am new to VMS and thus dont know how to check the version and architecture etc.

But by mistake I have deleted the CMS history and which created a HISTORY.DMP file in my local directory.

I am trying to replace the 01CMS.HIS file with the HISTORY.DMP file but it is giving me an error as stated above.

Hope this helps.

Re: CMS History - Urgent!!!!!

The files are in different formats, and it doesn't sound that easy to convert them. Probably easier to go for a backup.

Re: CMS History - Urgent!!!!!

kapilkapsi,

sh sys/nopro at the command prompt will show you the version. hopefully you have backups of this system ?
i have'nt used cms for a long time but it has probably created the history.dmp as part of it's error handling, it is probably not your 01cms.his file. this should be restored from your latest backup. hopefully there is not too much time elapsed between the backup and now.
there are other means of recovering deleted files but that depends a lot on other activity
on the volume in question.
other contributors on this forum will have a lot more suggestions and solutions so don't panic yet ! :-)

Re: CMS History - Urgent!!!!!

dump/byte/page/rec/dec 01cms.his

You will see that the CMS object is enclosed in ASCII 127 characters.
