Can't start BIND (VMS:V7.3-2/TCP:V5.4-eco6)

I've configured a simple set of files for a domain (forward and reverse databases) and ran the configurations script supplied to create the BIND config file. When I start BIND, OPCOM reports:

images installed...

INTERnet ACP Error during process startup, Nolisten Service Disabled - BIND server
INTERnet ACP AUXS error during process exit Status = %CLI-E-IMAGEFNF

I cannot find any appropriate log files to research this problem. Any hints?

Re: Can't start BIND (VMS:V7.3-2/TCP:V5.4-eco6)

Around here,
TCPIP SHOW SERVICE /FULL BIND
suggests looking at
SYS$SPECIFIC:[TCPIP$BIND]TCPIP$BIND_RUN.LOG
which seems to:
run 'f$edit("sys$system:tcpip$bind_server.exe","upcase")'

I have one of those:

Directory SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]

TCPIP$BIND_SERVER.EXE;1
4300 2-OCT-2007 19:13:33.28 (RWED,RWED,RE,RE)

alp $ tcpip show version

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Alpha Version V5.4 - ECO 7
on a COMPAQ Professional Workstation XP1000 running OpenVMS V7.3-2

Oops/Duh. I meant:

TCPIP$SYSTEM:TCPIP$BIND_RUN.COM

I get no run .LOG. Does your log file indicate what file is running to create this? where is the 'run' command?

Re: Can't start BIND (VMS:V7.3-2/TCP:V5.4-eco6)

Nevermind.... I figured it out:

$ PIPE TCPIP ENABLE SERVICE BIND ; TCPIP SHOW SERVICE BIND/FULL

Showed UCX definitions. I would have thought that running TCPIP$CONFIG would have corrected this but thei is TCPIP Services, I should know better.

All's well that ends well...

You were supposed to read the output from
TCPIP SHOW SERVICE /FULL BIND
more carefully than I did. (At least more
carefully than I did when I was doing that
copy+paste operation.)

Brian,

from your Forum Profile:

I have assigned points to 0 of 35 responses to my questions.

... dating all the way back to 2004.

Maybe you can find some time to do some assigning?

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#33

Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!

To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption "My Question(s)" you will find "questions or topics with unassigned points " Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.

Thanks on behalf of your Forum colleagues.

PS. nothing personal in this. I try to post it to everyone with this kind of assignment ratio in this forum. If you have received a posting like this before please do not take offence none is intended!

PPS. Zero points for THIS entry, please.

Proost.

Have one on me.

Why can't you reply to individual posts?

Anyway, Steven, the problem was that the BIND was immediately disabled after starting it. Therefore, there is little information available. When I used the PIPE it started the service and nearly immediately queried it before it was disabled. That's how I found the problem. It must have been enabled at some time in the past and the BIND definition was still using the UCX$BIND directory and image.

Re: Can't start BIND (VMS:V7.3-2/TCP:V5.4-eco6)

I've been asked to give points time and time again. I don't know WHERE to give points. Attached is a PDF view of ITRC... please indicate the page # and X & Y points ( from lower left as 0,0) in inches or mm/cm on a standard 8.5"x11" output.

Could you also provide the answer to my question about not being able to amend my profile (in the ITRC/general forum).

Re: Can't start BIND (VMS:V7.3-2/TCP:V5.4-eco6)

Brian,

The pull-down to assign points SHOULD be to the right of the timestamp on each response (at least it is when I view ITRC via either Firefox or IE).

Which browser are you using?

Bob, see the PDF copy of my web page... save for all the gobbledegook javascript that doesn't work, there is no "pulldown".

You can only reply to the whole thread. You need to invent a style that includes something from the reply you want to comment on. (See above for mine.)

It helps if you provide a URL so we don't have to bother mr google.

Nothing was obvious. I was able to change to lower case then back.

I don't see your profile name on the left, just above the "Member icons". Were you logged on?

Otherwise you'll have to use something other than safari for assigning points.

Well, then change it to capitals for me.

I get: The Forums user name you specified is already in use.

Do you have JavaScript enabled? I have a
separate Mozilla profile for ITRC with
JavaScript enabled. As I recall, there were
several features which didn't work without
it. (But don't strain yourself only to
award _me_ points.)

FWIW, I have no problem with any other sites rich with JavaScript.
