Courier-New Font for OpenVMS

My users create RTF files in VMS and ship them to their PC to open in Word. They want to open them up in word with COURIER-NEW as the default font (or possibly ARIAL) .

I'm not exactly sure how all of this works, but I check and the only "font" loaded on VMS is COURIER (plus a bunch of other that they are not interested in).

My question is, can we download additional fonts onto our OPENVMS 7.3-1 server?

Re: Courier-New Font for OpenVMS

Create how? I don't know anything, but
according to the RTF spec,

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnrtfspec/html/rtfspec.asp

<<
The \fonttbl control word introduces the
font table group. Unique \fN control words
define each font available in the document,
and are used to reference that font
throughout the document.

What's to stop a user from specifying _any_
font, including fonts which are not available
on the source system?

It's probably not relevant, but "HELP FONT".

Re: Courier-New Font for OpenVMS

They use SAS to create the RTF files. I asked them the same question, why can't you just open it in Word and change the font? - their answer is "there are too many - we don't want to have to change them before sending to the client"

I know, I know - this sounds absurd - but that's what they want.

Re: Courier-New Font for OpenVMS

I know even less about SAS than I do about
RTF, but I'd say that if that's what's
creating the files, then that's where you
need to specify the font. I doubt that it
has much to do with VMS.

You might grab one of the RTF files, look at
it (with a mind toward finding the font table
-- "\filetbl"), and see if you can figure out
where it says "Courier". If no one can
figure out how to persuade SAS to specify the
desired font, you might be able to do a
(relatively) simple edit on the RTF to change
the font name(s).
