Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP
Did anyone mention MC NCP ?
I heard TSM mentioned, but I don't remember MC NCP being mentioned.
With me, the following command:
$MC NCP SHOW NODE * CHAR
will show me every decserver my system *thinks* it has, what circuit, and most importantly, the MAC address entered in the database.
Example:
SYS-554A01$ mc ncp show node TS505 char
Node Volatile Characteristics as of 16-JUL-2004 14:31:54
Remote node = 33.727 (TS505)
Service circuit = EIA-0
Hardware address = 08-00-2B-08-32-CB
Load file = SYS$SYSROOT:[DECSERVER]DS5TS505.SYS
The way my system is set up (triple ES40 cluster), the only way a load or communication will take place to the decserver is if the hardware address is populated (correctly) and the device is on the same VLAN (or broadcast network) as the server(s).
And... I can tell mac addresses if the device is plugged into a cisco switch cat5 (through an AUI) by connecting to the switch and using a "show cam dyname [mod/port]" command (CatOS) or
show mac address-table dynamic int [interface] (IOS). But this is all dependant upon your ethernet switch configuration.
This is my first post, sorry if I said things not applicable here.
