DNS failover on VMS 8.3-1H1 TCPIP V5.6

Hello,

I have many printer queues on OpenVMS using TELNETSYM. I have defined two Name servers in TCPIP. One DNS server failed today but no documents we printed anymore.
Also SMTP messages were not processed anymore.

Does DNS failover work on OpenVMS.

I see this error in the log file of a telnet queue:
getaddrinfo: temporary failure
Unknown host: PBEPRP015

Is there any documentation about DNS failover definitions on OpenVMS.

The queuemanager can run on any node in the cluster and can fail-over but if the IP-printer queues don't work anymore when we have a DNS failure we have a problem.

Toine,

If your environment has multiple DNS servers, then you need to tell OpenVMS about those DNS servers. Did you?

$ TCPIP SHO NAME

Look for the line that says "Servers:". Does it show all of your DNS servers? If not, that's your problem. You need to tell TCPIP Services about all of the servers you want it to try to use.

$TCPIP SET NAME /SYSTEM/SERVER=
