DS15 ATI Radeon 7500 Graphics controller

The Installation guide mentions "Dual-Screen mode" for 2 screens on page 3-6, but does not mention how to configure this? Any ideas?

Michael,

Maybe, this book will help you:

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/732final/documentation/pdf/dw_managing.pdf

Look at the dual head setup procedures on AXP.

Re: DS15 ATI Radeon 7500 Graphics controller

Michael,

Although Bojan's suggestion makes sense, I read in the installation guide (page 4-7) of the Radeon 7500 controller mentioned at

http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/products/graphics/productivity2d.html#radeon

that:

4.6 Multihead Support
Multihead support will be provided through an optional software product at a later date.

I hope this doesn't spoil your fun.

Re: DS15 ATI Radeon 7500 Graphics controller

Thanks chaps. The Read-me file on a vms 7.3-2 system tells me that upto 4 cards are supported but not dual-screen mode! Dual-screen mode is in use on the Vaxen the DS15´s will replace... :

Re: DS15 ATI Radeon 7500 Graphics controller

Note that the Managing DECwindows manual was extensively updated for V1.5. Most of the changes (except for IPv6 issues) are also applicable to V1.3-1 (and therefore OpenVMS V7.3-2).

I'm not sure what you mean by "dual-screen". There are (at least) three ways of configuring multiple graphic displays:

1. Separate screens with one keyboard/mouse
2. Single logical screen using Xinerama
3. Multiple seats each with own keyboard/mouse

As far as I am aware, provided the multiple graphics cards are supported, you can do (1) or (2) on any system later than OpenVMS V7.3-2 and (3) is not yet supported on anything recent.

Re: DS15 ATI Radeon 7500 Graphics controller

Dual-Screen means 2 screens with separate outputs. The mouse (1) can move between screens and applications can be started on screen 0 or 1 (Left or right).
The problem seems to be solved as I have installed 2 cards, DVI-I from the first card and VGA from the second which is working as we speak although I could not find anything written down to say "Dual-Screen" (see Radeon 7500 installation guide p3-6) mode is supported.

Re: DS15 ATI Radeon 7500 Graphics controller

On our DS15´s with HP or IIyama TFT displays we use 60hz x=1280, y=1024, set in sys$manager:decw$device_config_GH.com

I think your options are 2048 x 1536 with 60, 65, 70 or 75Hz or 2048 x 2048 with 57Hz

Hope this helps.
