DS15 consple connection

Help..... I'm stuck with a DS15 and can't connect to the console. I have a straight D9 cable with i've plugged into my laptop.

The straight cable doesn't seem to work so I crossed pins 2 and 3 and at 1 point it saw a >>> prompt, but I cant type B to boot it.

Does anyone know the pinouts required when using a 9pin cable. I saw a reference on one web site which talked about using a MMJ, which I dont have.

Re: DS15 consple connection

You do need to cross pins 2 and 3. If you use a cable with a female DB9 at each end then there is a good chance that it already has 2 and 3 crossed. If, OTH, you use a male/female cable with a sex changer, then you most likely need to cross them yourself.

If you saw the dead sergeant prompt (>>>) but do not get any response to a command, then there is the possibility that one of the pins is not connected, either a bad solder contact or a broken wire.

Re: DS15 consple connection

Are you connecting the groubds (pin 5 to pin
5)? A laptop might easily not automatically
share a ground with the Alpha.

What are the laptop's port characteristics?
They're adjustable on the Alpha, but 9600 b/s,
8 bits, no parity is a popular combination.
