Re: Determine size/quantity of memory in system without shutdown
Simply do a show memory/physical command at the DCL prompt.

Re: Determine size/quantity of memory in system without shutdown
AFAIK is not possible. If you have no user connected and you can access to console you caN type Ctrl + P to enter into SRM; then you can type >>>SHOW MEMORY commands and >>>CONT to resume VMS.
Remember, after Ctrl + P, system halts (all processes stop) and sometimes this operatione may be dangerous.

SolutionOpenVMS itself cannot do this, but DECevent and/or Compaq Analyse/SEA (from WEBES) may be able to decode the FRU table:
$ ANAL/SYS
SDA> CLUE FRU
FRU Table written to CLUE$FRU.SYS file, use COMPAQ Analyze or DECevent to analyze.
SDA> Exit
$ diagnose clue$fru.sys
...
Depending on the type of Alpha system platform and the version of DECevent or CA/SEA, it might tell you this data in the memory FRU packet.
