The BL860c i2 has SAS conectivity, what if I try to connect a HP StorageWorks 1U SAS Rack-mount Kit (AE459B) with an internal LTO-3 Ultrium 920 SAS Internal Tape Drive (EH847A) to an existing BL860c i2 (AD399A) running OpenVMS V8.4?
Could the (508226-B2) P700m/512 4-ports Ext PCIe x8 SAS Controller be the link I need?
For me sounds logical it could be done, but after extensive search cannot find a difinitive confirmation of such configuration.
What about USB connection?
Any assistance will be extremelly appreciated.

Visit HP SPOCK, that's the tool that manages the supported hardware configurations involving StorageWorks products:
http://h20272.www2.hp.com/
If that's not listing the configuration, then it's probably either not supported and/or you're going to end up calling HP representatives directly and ask them sort this out.
If you've got the gear, connect it and see if it works.
And forget USB 2.0 for this. Way, way, way too slow. (There's a reason faster interconnects including Intel Thunderbolt and USB3 are coming online, after all.)
And AFAIK and FWIW, VMS has no support for USB tape.
