Enterprise monitoring software that can monitor OpenVMS as well

Hi Guys,

Aside from HP/CA/IBM solutions, are there any other enterprise monitoring applications that you can recommend for me to look at? Currently, we are using IBM Tivoli but lately we find that the maintenance cost has been going up and would like to investigate what other solutions/alternatives we got. Beside from that, implementation on the OpenVMS servers used a customized script and after upgrading our Alphas to Itaniums, we are no longer able to monitor our OpenVMS nodes.

Basically, our requirements are as follows:

1. Able to monitor basic server statistics: CPU, memory, disks, network, processes

2. Able to monitor multi-OS environment: OpenVMS IA64, HP-UX, Windows, Linux, Solaris

3. Able to generate statistics reports, either in graphs or CSV format

4. Add-ons: DB monitoring (Oracle, MySQL, MSSql, DB2, Informix)

Even if the solution does not support OpenVMS outright, at least it has the flexibility to accept data by running scripts on an OpenVMS nodes and parsing the data from the script result.

You might want to have a look at CockpitMgr for OpenVMS.

At our company we have been using this product for more than fifteen years. We have been monitoring hunderds of systems with it, including OpenVMS VAX, Alpha and Integrity servers, Cisco Catalysts, Brocade FC switches, etc. I must say that it has saved us from disaster on a couple of occasions.

Hi Steven,

Basically, the customized script here are in the forms of Perl and Ruby scripts, and one of IBM's tool (I forgot the name already) to "convert" this scripts so that Tivoli can use it. Unfortunately, during initial implementation of the project, official training was not included, thus, no one in the team was able to maintain it.
