.FIRST and .LAST in MMS
Dear VMS Users,
May I know what is the function of .FIRST and .LAST in MMS file? How can I convert it to the counterpart in makefile?

For details of DECset MMS and for the command syntax of the various constructs including .FIRST and .LAST, the documentation is the best available resource:

If you want to pursue the makefile conversion discussion here, it would be most expedient to post up the full MMS source file and the questions might you have on the syntax. You'll likely get answers or potentially even a full conversion from DECset MMS over to whatever target makefile tool is involved in your target environment.
Or you can pay for somebody to do the conversion for you; that's the most expeditious path. (Alternatively and if this is a hobbyist effort, post up a pointer to whatever kit or package you're porting, and somebody might know of a replacement or a port.)
