How to Grab Console fromanother User in Console Manager

I need to access a server's console via COnsole Manager. It is currently used by a user who dozed off and we can't contact him. Is there a console break command?

My HP-UX machine's console is managed by a VMS COnsole Manager system:

SYSUSR$SATURN>console connect srv001

Unicenter Console Manager
Connect/Monitor Interface V3.0-0401
Remote console (srv001) already connected by another user
Type CTRL/E to exit or CTRL/G to escape to monitor
This connection is write-locked - you cannot type anything on this console
Type CTRL/E to exit or CTRL/G to escape to monitor

Re: How to Grab Console fromanother User in Console Manager

I used to use HPUX systems connected to t a DEC terminal server and the only way you could get the control from a hung session, let it be because of a sleepyhead user or a broken link in the middle of a session, was, to use the command

reset port ##

but in order to use this, you must have logged in to the terminal server with a user name which has administrator/system privileges. By default, this should be SYSTEM as any other DEC equipment. It has been more than 10 years since I have used that kind of console access, so my memory is quite blurry. So the information I am providing could be some aliases set by the TS administrator.

You could get a better answer if you post this question on VMS section of the forums I believe

When you Type Ctrl-Ecf the console session is always closed.

No idea of your hardware, just did a search with "CTRL/G to escape to monitor" on google and did not get so many hits.

Re: How to Grab Console fromanother User in Console Manager

I usually do:
console manage srv001
See if anyone is actively doing something. If its Idle I do:
connect
If that doesn't connect me:
unlock
connect

The Ctrl-G puts you into the "monitor" mode. I never like killing a console when they are actively doing something.

ioscan -fnkC console
ps -ef |grep console

use fuser to see who locked it
kill that session

Re: How to Grab Console fromanother User in Console Manager

If you can't find this (easily) with the DCL command HELP CONSOLE, do submit a bug report against the product.

If you have to ask how to perform this or a similar task with any console management product, then the documentation or the UI or the product itself has severe issues. Common tasks should be well-documented, after all.

...

The following per the old POLYCENTER Console Manager Documentation that's around; this is the predecessor name to the CA Unicenter Console Manager product, or whatever the PCM console stuff is called now.

With the UNLOCK privilege (that looks to be a console-product privilege), you can use the console UNLOCK command, or you can use the MB3 button with the system (and the popup menu; the GUI interface) to unlock the box. See if HELP CONSOLE has clues here.

Basically the sequence mentioned by Peter Z.

Z1ncwiskr,

from your Forum Profile:

I have assigned points to 1889 of 2345 responses to my questions.

Some dating many years back.

Maybe you can find some time to do some assigning?

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#33

Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!

To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption "My Question(s)" you will find "questions or topics with unassigned points " Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.

Thanks on behalf of your Forum colleagues.

PS. nothing personal in this. I try to post it to everyone with this kind of assignment ratio in this forum. If you have received a posting like this before please do not take offence none is intended!

PPS. Zero points for THIS entry, please.

Proost.

Have one on me.
