How to create a bootable firmware CD on a PC for an AlphaServer

I have downloaded the V7.3 firmware for my AlphaServer and need to create a bootable AlphaServer CD on a PC. How do I write the V73.ISO file to a CD with my PC so it will boot on the AlphaServer.

I think I have heard CDBurnerXP recommended for this.

The .ISO file is a complete image of the bootable CD.
It has to be copied one to one to the CD.
Depending on the CD burning program, select the "burn image" option.
In the KDE image writer (K3B 4.5.3) for example,
select "more actions" -> "burn image ...".

Not very detailed descriptions.

Personally, I find it convenient to have a
CD-writing drive attached to an/my/the Alpha
system, where I can then use cdrecord to
write such a CD with no trouble, avoiding any
inconvenience/trouble involved with dragging
Windows (That is the OS on "my PC", right?)
and who-knows-what CD-writing software into
the picture.

Re: How to create a bootable firmware CD on a PC for an AlphaServer

Hi Joseph,

As J.Huber has pointed out, the .ISO file is what you need as it is the complete
image of the bootable CD. You need to burn the .ISO file on the CD using any
CD burning softwares.
For example, if you are using "Roxio Creater Basic" then you have to use the
option "Copy->Burn_Image" and specify the location of the ISO file on your PC.
This should create a bootable CD, which can then be used on your VMS Server.

Hope this helps.

If you have been convinced that writing it on VMS might be an option, read this:

copy/recordable does not always do the trick.

Thank you all. I used my Roxio CD burning software on my PC to do the COPY IMAGE to the CD and can now boot the CD on my AlphaServer.

The Roxio Copy with Burn Image was the solution I used.
