Insight Manager Agents - OVMS 7.3-1

Hi Folks,

We want to obtain hardware status & failure reports on our AlphaServer via Systems Insight Manager 5.01.

We have the following:

- 1 COMPAQ AlphaServer DS25
- OpenVMS 7.3-1
- HP SIM 5.01 up and running (Win & Linux managed nodes)

In the SIM Agent supported platform list only appears OpenVMS v 7.3-2, so it is a major concern for us.

Any help and comments will be greatly appreciated.

Sergio,

OpenVMS V7.3-1 is not supported since some time and even OpenVMS V7.3-2 is in PVS (prior-version-support) since 1-JAN-2007.

Don't expect HP tools to (at least officially) provide support for these versions anymore.

Try to find and install an older version of the WBEM_AGENTS kit or upgrade to a supported OpenVMS release.

We are aware of limited (if any) support of our old VMS version, but we are tied to it due to application compatibility reasons, which hopefully will be addressed...

Please, anyone has any links or some reference to the WBEM_AGENTS Volker cited in his post?

current insight management agents are at

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/products/mgmt_agents/

As you said, they list V7.3-2.

You could try installing the current although I expect the kit will check for V7.3-2 minimum.

If you subscribe to the condist CDs then you could look at older CDs to see if the older WBEM kits are available.

You can see any hardware fault or device errors on any OVMS version by given command in system prompt

$>show error

if any device errors count increase frequently then analyze errorlog i.e. in binary format(use decevent to read and translate in ascii format).

by this you can prevent your system from any hardware failure or crash.

Also you can capture all errors on devices or hardware
$ sho error/output=filename

and you can make a command procedure for this and run this on batch queue.

after looking at the PCSI description file

HP-AXPVMS-MGMTAGENTS-V0304-1-1.PCSI$DESCRIPTION

chances are high, that you can install this kit on OpenVMS Alpha A7.3 or higher ! Whether is will actually work, remains to be seen...
