LMF license check has failed

I just installed OVMS 8.3 on my DS10L. But I can not log in as SYSTEM.

Error information:
LMF license check has failed.

Who can help ?

Hi lingweicai

Welcome to the OpenVMS Forum.

I guess you did not define licenses during the installation process. In this case login to the system is only allowed over the console.

After doing this, you should add licenses for OpenVMS and the another required products. After doing this and configuring your network, you should be able to login over the network as well.

Thank you very much for your quick reply !

I had registered the PAK of OpenVMS-Alpha when I installed OVMS 8.3 on my DS10L. By the way, there were no this kind of problem when I installed OVMM 7.3 on my DS10L.

Do I need to register other PAKs for me to login the system?

this looks like you may be trying to login via DECwindows MOTIF and the DW-MOTIF PAK is not installed, see

You migth need to boot the system with conversational boot and register the DW-MOTIF PAK.

Do you have graphics console?
In that case you have to register DW-MOTIF license.
In vino veritas, in VMS cluster

Did You INSTALL or UPGRADE to 8.3 ?
If upgrading, the license file would have been kept.
Anyway, You certainly have a backup of the system, why not restore the license database ?

If You have no DW-MOTIF license, look for some NET-APP-SUP-* license, most Alpha came with this bundle.

Dear All,

Yes, I solved the problem by re-installing the OVMS 8.3 with the registration the PAK of DW-Motif.

I am very supprised that the responses are so many, quick, hitting the right points.

Thanks I solved the problem. I have a new prolem of upgrading to a 80GB HD from a 10GB HD for my DS10L. I will submit a thread if I can not solve the issue after my search.
