MSL5000 on Itanium

Hi all,
I am currently trying to connect an MSL5000
to an rx2600 via SCSI. The system runs VMS V8.3
and I am unable to config the Jukebox within VMS
and MRU.

I understand that the GKDRIVER is used to connect
the device but not sure what the device name for the robot would be as the EFI SHELL> DEVICES command output doesn't seem to indicate a SCSI ID for the robot. See Attached file.

The tape drive in the MSL shows up as MKD100 in
VMS and is usable and I have tried a SYSMAN IO AUTO to config the robot but this doesn't see the robot. Any tricks to this ?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, John W.

Re: MSL5000 on Itanium

Hi,

When the tape library is connected through the SCSI, then the ROBOTIC device needs to be configured manually. Typical number used for naming the ROBOTIC device should be 100 more than the drive number. In your case, the robotic device name is GKD200:, since the drive name is MKD100:. Below command can be used to configure the ROBOTIC device.

$ MC SYSMAN IO CONNECT GKD200: /DRIVER=SYS$GKDRIVER/NOADAPTER

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ketan

Re: MSL5000 on Itanium

Thanks Shriniketan, I have the MSL/MRU working
now by assuming that the rx sees the correct
SCSI ID that is set in the MSL for the robot.

It was set to 0 but this isn't evident in the EFI SHELL output.

The itanium's console is extremely user unfriendly - just like most of the PARISC box consoles. Also the attach file function of the forum post seems broken - tried twice and no file attached.

The EFI SHELL DEVICES output doesn't show SCSI ID's ie: the below example has " 1 - - " for the MSL5000 entry !!!!

Maybe there is a better equivalent on the EFI SHELL> similar to an alpha >>>show dev.

Thanks.

John,

Attachments work, but if your posting fails, you need to reattach before resubmitting.

My standard practice is to SELECT ALL and COPY my response text before hitting SUBMIT. When it fails (fairly frequent), hit BACK, paste text if it's lost, reattach any files and try again.

Best bet with attachments is to stick with .TXT or .ZIP files
