Prem, (and others)

perhaps because my focus is different, but what caught my I is

>>>

Pid Process Name State Pri I/O CPU Page flts Pages
0000041C TCPIP$FTP_1 LEF 9 2853378 0 00:02:16.67 743 308 N

00002A05 TASK_14010005 HIB 6 759 0 00:00:00.14 682 270 N
<<<

Look at the PIDs. This is _NOT_ a cluster PID syntax, but from a standalone VMS system!

And that is the most I will say about this, because I know just too little of the details of NTP, but those who do might have further questions based on this.

Re: NTP Works Fine,But I cannot see it in PS NTP

Hi Jan, thought you'd still be sleeping off the celebration ! Hope you downed 10 !

Perm, are you sure this PID is NTP ? Does a $ show proc/cont/id=a999 really show tcpip$ntp.exe ? I ask as your cpu usage is v.small.

Also, long shot... is there are other prcnam called TCPIP$NTP_1 on the system ?

to add to John's question:

or WAS there - at the time of starting NTP ?

Indeed my thoughts too ! Perhaps not started via the documented/usual methods as it would have complained about being active !

Perm,

What does the output from

$ show log/tab=tcpip$startup_table reveal ?

Does the *NTP* logical contents (start time stamp) match that of $ f$getjpi("a999","logintim") ?

Re: NTP Works Fine,But I cannot see it in PS NTP

Prem,

stop NTP on the 'non-working' node using @TCPIP$CONFIG. Make sure the process is gone. If not, use STOP/ID to stop it.

Then start NTP again using @TCPIP$CONFIG.

Re: NTP Works Fine,But I cannot see it in PS NTP

Prem,

pid a999 TCPIP$NT_BG2918 is not the original NTP_1, as it login time is different from that shown in the logical name table. I suspect another copy was started and the first one killed off/died (you could use the accounting file or security log file or look for and odd .dmp files). Perhaps not worth it. You can simply stop and start as Volker suggests.

Top stop
stop/id=a999 (as mentioned by Volker) OR
@sys$startup:tcpip$ntp_shutdown

To start:
@sys$startup:tcpip$ntp_startup OR
@tcpip$config and exit (it will ask if you want to start NTP)

$ sho sys/net
:-)

Re: NTP Works Fine,But I cannot see it in PS NTP

Prem,

TCPIP$NTP_1 should be automatically started by @TCPIP$CONFIG when starting the NTP service. The fact that it seems to only be started, if you use the ntpq command, indicates that there is something wrong.

Please have a look at the SYS$SPECIFIC:[TCPIP$NTP]TCPIP$NTP_RUN.LOG file.

Re: NTP Works Fine,But I cannot see it in PS NTP

Prem,

on the 'failing' node:

Limit: 1 Active: 1 Peak: 1

This indicates that NTP seems to have been started by a 'connect'. NTP should have been started as a detached process and show up like this:

Limit: 1 Active: 0 Peak: 0

Volker.
