No connection to MSA1000
Hallo,
we have a MSA1000 with IO-module (software 4.48 Build 342) connected to an QLogic ISP23xx FibreChannel adapter in an rx2620 with VMS 8.3 and last Fibre-SCSI-patch V4.0.
The display in the MSA1000 shows "Link up", but CLI> show connections gives "no connections are found" and also on VMS:
$run sys$etc:msa_utils shows
MSA> show controller
... No controllers found ..."
Is there anything to configure before you can see a connection?

Re: No connection to MSA1000
Michael,
How we did it...
1. Boot the rx2620 from the "Itanium Processor Family Offline Diagnostics and Utilities IPF 0609" CD.
2. From the menu, select "q. exit menu without reboot". This brings you back to the EFI Boot Manager menu. From this menu, select EFI Shell.
3. On fs0: (if that is the CD) locate the "efiutil" in EFI\HP\TOOLS\IO_CARDS\FC2
and run it like this:
efiutil info
4. Record the WWN numbers displayed.
5. Boot the rx2620 from the "HP OpenVMS Version 8.3 for Integrity Servers Operating Environment" DVD, and select the EFI shell
6. On fs0: (if that is the DVD) locate "vms_bcfg" in \EFI\BOOT, and set the EfiScanLevel to 1 thus:
vms_bcfg boot fibre 1
7. At the console of the MSA1000, you should then see the connections (after a reboot of the rx2620):
CLI> show connections
You should see the WWN numbers.
Good luck,
Kris (aka Qkcl)

Re: No connection to MSA1000
Hallo Chris,
after replacing the IO-module with an FC-switch, I could see the MSA-FC-controller from $mc sys$etc:msa_util and from CLI> the other connected FC-controller.
Thanks for your hints.

Re: No connection to MSA1000
That sounds like you tried a direct connect between the Fibre Channel adapter and the MSA1000 controller. In that case the system would need to run FC_AL protocol, which is not 'supported' by VMS (and the Integrity might not even provide the ability to alter the adapter settings).
Does anybody still have one of DEC's colorful Powerpoint presentations from 1998 in which they promised FC_AL support?
