OVMS 7.3-2 FTP issue

Hi,

I am trying to FTP from one VMS box to other VMS box it is coming out after some time with
error
%TCPIP-E-FTP_SEND, cannot send on socket
-SYSTEM-F-LINKDISCON, network partner disconnected logical link
550-Network READ failure.
550 connect to network object timed-out or failed

however i am not finding any problem while telnet these machine.

any suggestions are welcome.

Re: OVMS 7.3-2 FTP issue

Deepak,

How are the boxes connected to the network?
Are the NICs and switch ports configured for
the correct speed and duplex setting?
If anything is set to auto-negotiate, set it
to the desired setting i.e. DO NOT use any
auto-negotiating.
I have found that when things are auto-negotiating
that all seems OK until you try to do something
like a file copy across the network or anything
else that puts a load on the connection.
Are you seeing any other network problems?
This is just a guess.

Re: OVMS 7.3-2 FTP issue

Also, any info on VMS Version, HW type, patch level for TCPIP and the general network topology wouldn't hurt...

q

Also have a poke around sys$sysdevice:[tcpip$ftp] log files, and see if there is anything relevant...

Re: OVMS 7.3-2 FTP issue

Dave,

yes box's are connected to network.
$ MCR LANCP SHOW DEVICE/CHARACTERISTICS

Device Characteristics EIA0:
Value Characteristic
----- --------------
1500 Device buffer size
Normal Controller mode
External Internal loopback mode
00-06-2B-03-48-99 Hardware LAN address
Multicast address list
CSMA/CD Communication medium
FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF Current LAN address
128 Minimum receive buffers
256 Maximum receive buffers
Yes Full duplex enable
Yes Full duplex operational
TwistedPair Line media type
100 Line speed (mbps)
Disabled/No Failset Logical LAN state
0 Failover priority

other than this how to see NICs and switch ports configured.

sys$sysdevice:[tcpip$ftp]TCPIP$FTP_RUN.LOG file has only one line ftp server started.

Thanks
Deepak

Why are you doing FTP transfers between nodes
in a cluster?

Deepak,

a previous thread describing similar symptoms is:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=686247

That problem has been diagnosed to network switch port parameter settings and negotiation differences.
