Open VMS server IP change

Hi,

I have 2 VMS servers to be relocated. Before that, I need to change the IP address of both servers and DNS entries.

Could someone detail the process of the above?

Thanks,
Amaresh

Re: Open VMS server IP change

Which TCPIP package? Which version?
OpenVMS provided? Which version and platform?
Who 'owns' the DNS?

Most likely you just need to run $SYS$STARTUP:TCPIP$CONFIG
- Core
- Interfaces

Good luck,
Hein.

Re: Open VMS server IP change

Thanks Hein,

TCPIP details for 2 servers..

DEC AXPVMS TCPIP V5.6-9
DEC AXPVMS TCPIP V5.0-10

currently there is no DNS entry. We have to make new DNS entries.

Re: Open VMS server IP change

I would do a search for the IP address in ALL files of ALL disks. You never know who put the address where. Over here it's hardcoded in the Sybase interfaces files for historic reasons.

And idem on the client side.

Re: Open VMS server IP change

There is no hard coded IP.

I want the IP change procedure in detail. I am new to config tool.

In my case, the IP and default gateway will be changed. No change in subnet mask.

hi,

hein has already given you the tool to use , for more detail have a look at the tcpip management guide for tcpip v5.6 here :-

Re: Open VMS server IP change

Thanks a lot for the help.

I have more queries:

- is the IP change to be done after or before the server moves to new location?
- is there any way to check (before the move)if the changes are fine?

Re: Open VMS server IP change

In order to determine if the change has worked or not may depend on whether you are changing subnets and how the network is setup. If you were not changing the subnet you should be able to stop and restart tcpip from the tcpip$config menu, first making sure that you are not logged in over tcpip and then testing the connectivity.

All of this also assumes you know what impact tcpip going restarting would have on your applications and user base.
