OpenVMS - Print in landscape format to HP Business Inkjet 3000

Hi,

I need to print files in landscape format to a HP Business Inkjet 3000 printer from a OpenVMS machine. Anyone know how to do that? Thanks.

According to <>, this printer understands postscript.

How is the printer connected to your VMS system? By ethernet? If so, then theoretically you could set up DCPS and then PRINT/PARAM=PAGE_ORIENTATION=LANDSCAPE.

Otherwise you could find the PCL codes to set landscape and use them. For greatest convenience, this would probably involve creating a device library for the printer, setting up a "landscape" form, associating library modules with the form, and then PRINT/FORM=yourlandscapeformname.

The printer is on the network. The VMS system is running on Multinet. I tried print/param=page_orientation=landscape but the print out came out in portrait.
How to create a form for landscape?
Thanks.

First, check the DCPS software-product description. I'd guess this isn't a supported printer, but that's worth a look; if DCPS is supported here, load and configure and use that.

Also check the details of the printer documentation, as various of these low-numbered HP printers use driver-based Postscript and sometimes driver-based rendering. For use with OpenVMS, you need a printer with printer-based rendering, and (for DCPS) printer-based Postscript. Unfortunately, making this implementation distinction can be surprisingly difficult; for the folks that are running these printers with Microsoft Windows or such, this rendering stuff "just works"; it's not a distinction that matters there. Here's some background:

Then Google for OpenVMS printing and landscape or some such searches. There are various generic discussions posted around the network, including various Ask The Wizard topics, and have a look at:

Linda,

there is no supported 'Inkjet' printer in the list of supported printers in the current DCPS V2.7 SPD. The printer may still work with DCPS, but you need to try - or find someone, whoc has tried this specific printer before.

DCPS V2.7 works on top of Multinet (per the SPD), so get DCSP from the most recent layered product CDs and give it a try.
