OpenVMS Resets date and time on reboot

I am having a new problem with VMS v8.4, now when I reboot VMS resets the time to 1 Jan 2010 00:00:00. I don't understand why. I can user SET TIME=[...] just fine; subsequently SHOW TIME displays the time I just entered. I reboot the server SYS$SYSTEM:SHUTDOWN and from the EFI BOOT I check the date time time, all is well. Power off the machine for 3-5 minutes, turn back on, check the time again still good (Tells me the battery is fine). Let VMS boot and the resets to 1/1/2010 almost immediatly. (Booting reports that the boot for IA64 started at 1-Jan-2010).

I recently encountered an error forcing me to enter the date and time on bootup. I set the TIMEPROMPTWAIT to zero. I don't know if this behavior started then, but I just noticed it today. My other thread is here: http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/General/Please-enter-date-and-time-with-frozen-keyboard/td-p/6715576

Thanks

Re: OpenVMS Resets date and time on reboot

This is an OpenVMS I64 bug.

See details at:  http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1795

For OpenVMS I64 V8.4 installing VMS84I_UPDATE-V0600 (or higher) should help.

From VMS84I_UPDATE-V0600  Release Notes:

5.2.110 Avoid prompt to enter system time during reboot

If an OpenVMS Integrity server system is booted and the
time stored in one of its data cells is five years or
more in the past, the system prompts the operator to
enter the correct date and time. This can delay boots
and reboots since operator intervention is required.
This update kit avoids the operator intervention to
enter the system time during reboot.

Re: OpenVMS Resets date and time on reboot

This seems to be a different bug.

I just experienced it after upgrading VMS 8.3-1H1 to 8.4 + UPDATE 2.0 (using the Remastered DVD).

The system does not ask for the date&time, it just boots with the time set to 1-Jan-2010.

After installing UPDATE 11.0, however the problem seems to be gone.

Re: OpenVMS Resets date and time on reboot

Okay, this could be the same bug - my system's TIMEPROMPTWAIT was set to 0.
