OpenVMS: Watchdog. Keep getting <node name> Connection Status: File not found
On VMS Watchdog I keep getting message as below
15-DEC 19:08 BGSA04 Connection status: file not found
Its not for all nodes but just certain.
sns> show cons/full
Controller : V2.2_9903
Consolidator : 187 V2.2_9903 "VMS Consolidator Profile"
Profile : DSA0:[SNS$WATCHDOG.PROFILES]VMS_PROFILE.DAT
Log file : DSA0:[SNS$WATCHDOG.LOG]VMS.LOG;1 Enabled
Action routines : Enabled
DECtalk : Disabled
Mailbox : Disabled
Polling interval : 120
Before setting : Not specified
Since setting : 14-DEC-2005
Watchdog information:
Node Status Class Version OS Version
TRDSAS Enabled VMS_CLASS V2.1-01 TNG V7.3-1
TRDMAN Enabled VMS_CLASS V2.1-01 TNG V7.1-1H2
PHQV03 Enabled VMS_CLASS V2.2-02 VMS V7.1
BGSA11 Enabled VMS_CLASS ??.??
BGSA04 Enabled VMS_CLASS ??.??
What does "??.??" indicate?
Can anyone please advice.
Can connect BGSA11 decnet wise but not to BGSA04 (which might have some decnet related issue)
For both - BGSA11, BGSA04, the node profile characteristics are same as the ones watchdog can communicate (TRDSAS).
OpenVMS version is 7.3-2.

Re: OpenVMS: Watchdog. Keep getting <node name> Connection Status: File not found
Hi Rajiv,
"??.??" means the watchdog consolidator is not able to connect agent. Seems to me a network issues.
Can you ping & telnet to both the nodes BGSA11 & BGSA04?
What transpord are you using to connect ...DECNET or TCPIP?
Also, you have mentioned "Can connect BGSA11 decnet wise but not to BGSA04 (which might have some decnet related issue)". Try to find out why you are not able to connect to BGSA04.
HTH,
Thanks & regards,
Lokesh Jain

Re: OpenVMS: Watchdog. Keep getting <node name> Connection Status: File not found
Hi Rajeev,
Apart from the suggestions made by Lokesh, I would also restart the agents on the boxes that the watchdog cannot reach.
But first you have to make sure there is no network problem.

Kris (aka Qkcl)

Re: OpenVMS: Watchdog. Keep getting <node name> Connection Status: File not found
Thanks guys. I can set host to BGSA11 but not to BGSA04. From BGSA11 I can set host to this node as well as BGSA04.
Looks like some connectivity issue between this node (IT4108) and BGSA04. The transport on both sns profiles (BGSA11 and BGSA04) was TCPIP. I have changed BGSA11 to be DECNET and now "??.??" have gone for BGSA11. BGSA04 still shows and also cannot set host to it. I have stopped and started sns on BGSA04.
Any idea what should I check for decnet issue on both nodes? Thanks again for all your help.
