OpenVMS v8.3 IA64 DECforms v4.0 runtime complaining about DECforms license

Hi,

I have an HP Integrity server with DECforms v4.0 Runtime installed from kit FORSMRTI040.%.

I have a FORMS-RT license.

When I install this kit, and start up DECforms I get the following message:-

Starting Installation Verification Procedure (IVP)

for DECforms V4.0 Run-time Manager

%%%%%%%%%%% OPCOM 7-MAY-2010 11:11:56.18 %%%%%%%%%%%
Message from user SYSTEM on EDIGTY
%LICENSE-E-NOAUTH, DEC FORMS use is not authorized on this node
-LICENSE-F-NOLICENSE, no license is active for this software product
-LICENSE-I-SYSMGR, please see your system manager

DECforms Installation Verification Procedure

If you are reading this panel, it indicates that DECforms has
successfully Enabled a form.

Press Ctrl/Z or F10 to complete the Installation Verification
Procedure. If you do not receive any failure messages, the
Procedure has successfully disabled this form.

So it seems to work, but it is just the operator license message is intrusive and annoying.

Has anybody else had a similar experience?

Thanks
Andrew

Hi,

If you are receiving LICENSE-F-NOLICENSE message, you can determine the license name using OPCOM. First, define the following logical name:

$ DEFINE/SYSTEM/EXEC LMF$DISPLAY_OPCOM_MESSAGE TRUE

and then enable an operator console for LICENSE:

$ REPLY/ENABLE=LICENSE

and now execute the command you are having trouble with. OPCOM will list all failed license probes.

Re: OpenVMS v8.3 IA64 DECforms v4.0 runtime complaining about DECforms license

I suspect Mr Rycroft +has+ that LMF logical name defined, and is receiving what amounts to a spurious license PAK message.

It is the likelihood of spurious failing-license operator messages that are the rational behind why that logical name is usually left undefined; that many products using LMF will check for any of multiple licenses and that will generate spurious OPCOM messages and trigger concerns such as Mr. Rycroft has displayed here.

Looking at the original post, the installation looks to have succeeded.

Re: OpenVMS v8.3 IA64 DECforms v4.0 runtime complaining about DECforms license

Andrew,

it might be, that DECforms is checking for the FORMS license before checking for the FORMS-RT license. With the LMF$DISPLAY_OPCOM_MESSAGE defined - if this is the case - you might see that 'failing' license check attempt.

It's still arguable, whether this would be the correct behaviour of the DECforms license check.

Looks like this is a known problem. And the good news is that there is a
patch already available which has a fix for this problem.

The patch name is FORMSI040_PATCH_2 and is applicalbe to Decforms V4.0
on integrity.

You check the following link for more details -
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/commercial/decforms/formsi040_patch_2.txt

You can download the patch from the following location -
http://www11.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?patchid=FORMSI040_PATCH_2&sel={openvms:i64:8.3-1h1,}&BC=main|search|

Is this patch already installed ?
If NO then try installing the patch and let us know if the problem still occurs.

Re: OpenVMS v8.3 IA64 DECforms v4.0 runtime complaining about DECforms license

Just be careful when you install this patch. The command procedure is very basic, and just copies the 4 new images to the correct directory (and installs an object into a library).
It DOESN'T replace the shareable images in memory, so you'll have to do an INSTALL REPLACE/OPEN/HEAD/SHARE manually.

Have fun
