Re: Oracle Statment of Direction

I don't know whether you noticed it, but the relation current_owner::product is the same for Oracle::Rdb and HP::VMS: The current owner seems to be aware of the superiority of the (acquired) product but is reluctant to market it accordingly.

And don't forget DBMS also still exists, and it is still much used, most specifically for older, stable, pretty big, important apps!

(we use it, and it is by far the most stable database in the organisation. No rdb though, so no comparison there)

Re: Oracle Statment of Direction

Hi,

thanks to Sue for sharing this document with
us. It certainly is a good sign if Oracle does comitt on shipping the VMS version of Oracle classic very soon after the inital ship.

What also is needed though is support by applications that are layered on top of
Oracle like SAP. That would be a real opportunity for VMS to play on its strengths.

Re: Oracle Statment of Direction

When I read the SOD, it mentioned that VMS v7.3-2 was to be certified in December 2003.

The document was dated February 2004. I found that odd, so I sent a note to the person listed on the document.

She wrote back saying that the error would be fixed.

Re: Oracle Statment of Direction

Dave - well spotted - you are obviously the right person to be reviewing documents :-)

Does anyone know if Oracle is certified on VMS V7.3-2
(I hope it is as I've got an upgrade coming up RSN)
