PATHWORKS 7.3 ADVANDCED SERVER

odd Problem

2 alpha ds20e on same network

1 runs vms 7.3-2 and pathworks 6.0c
network mask on this machine is 255.255.255.128

the other runs vms 8.3 and pathworks 7.3B
when the network mask is 255.255.255.0 a PC can connect to shares, when the network mask is 255.255.255.128 it cant? also the command "net send" runs on the 1st machine but only runs on the 2nd when the mask is set to 255.255.255.128

is it possible to get both apps working at the same time from the 2nd machine and why does it rely so heavily on the subnet mask setting?

as of next week only the 2nd alpha will be on the network so i am hoping both net send and pathworks will be ok?

And what are all the IP addresses and
netmasks on all these systems? And how many
disagree?

For the same reason(s) that _all_ of IP
networking relies on correct subnet mask
settings? If you're asking this question,
then you may not be the right person to be
configuring this stuff.

Re: PATHWORKS 7.3 ADVANDCED SERVER

yes all the pc's are subnet mask 255.255.255.128 also

but why when 2 alphas on same subnet mask 255.255.255.128 does only one of them appear to allow connections via pathworks shares?

Do you think that that answered my question?

An actual answer would be more helpful.

Re: PATHWORKS 7.3 ADVANDCED SERVER

Silly questions, do both systems have license units available? Are you running the Pathworks 32 software on the PCs. What is the operating system on the PC(s)attempting to connect. Are the PCs and Alphaservers on the same subnet?
If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over? Reach me at first_name + "." + last_name at sysmanager net

yes they both do

Are you running the Pathworks 32 software on the PCs.

yes - but dont think this is totally required?

What is the operating system on the PC(s)attempting to connect.

Windows XP Pro

Are the PCs and Alphaservers on the same subnet?

Yes all on the same subnet - when one alpha changes to a different subnet pathworks shares become available on both

PROVE IT. Display the IP addresses, as
repeatedly requested. Having the same
netmask is not the same as being on the same
subnet. Your opinion, while interesting, is
not so valuable as actual facts (which you
seem adamant about hiding).

In short: THIS is your answer!

Nerwerk masks and IP adresses are really binary nmubers represented decimal.
... and .128 implies the first bit set, where .20 has not. Only addresses > .128 will "get masked in".

Proost.

Have one on me.
