So, the 45 is PDC in bertdomain and the domain CHASDOMAIN is in use somewhere else.

If you have no information about CHASDOMAIN then I think you have a choise of 2 options.
- take a new domain name and start fresh as primary
- join bertdomain as backup.

IVE SET AS FOLLOWS------

1. Run the License Server: YES
2. Enable Timesource service: NO
3. Enable Alerter service: NO
4. Enable Netlogon service: YES
5. Advanced Server domain: ROBDOMAIN
6. Advanced Server role: PRIMARY
7. Advanced Server computer name: DAVE
8. Server announce comment: Advanced Server V7.3B for OpenVMS
9. Advanced Server language: English (USA)
10. Enable NT style printing: NO

no need to reboot, just start the server

STILL not connecting but it is now asking for a username/password on the map drive via the PC!
so progress for sure but still not there

B.t.w, why do you run the license server?
thats only usefull if your PCs run PW32 and collect a license, something that is not common these days as most PC's have moved beyond Windows NT 4.0.

If you switch off the license server, delete all pwrk$license:*.dat files.

when you start a new domain, you only have administrator and guest, as usual.

Also your share database normally starts empty.
the old one is saved in a sub-dir of pwrk$lmdatafiles and is called sharedb.

yes this is historical - the pc's here did used to collect a license with the pw32 stuff

i will shut this and remove *.dat files as you suggest
