Problems with DEC WINDOWS

I require DEC WINDOWS to be working to allow an ORACLE10 install on our Alpha DS20E running VMS 8.3.
so far I am getting the following:-

DAVE$ set display/create/transport=tcpip/node=129.94.185.46
DAVE$ show display

Device: WSA7: [super]
Node: 129.94.185.46
Transport: TCPIP
Server: 0
Screen: 0

DAVE$ run sys$system:decw$clock
Xlib: connection to "_WSA7:" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
X Toolkit Error: Can't Open display
%DWT-F-NOMSG, Message number 03AB8204
DAVE$

Any ideas please?

Re: Problems with DEC WINDOWS

Roger,

on your X-server (IP=129.94.185.46), you need to set up the security settings, to allow your DECwindows client to open a display.

Re: Problems with DEC WINDOWS

Roger,

129.94.185.46 seems to be the IP address of your 'upgraded' DS20E running V8.3.

Do you have a VGA monitor connected to that system ? If so, then logon on that screen adn install Oracle. If not, you must direct the X-display to some other node with a graphics monitor, which runs X-server software. Could be your PC/laptop with Excursion/Reflection

Re: Problems with DEC WINDOWS

What gives

$ sea sys$startup:decw$startserver.com local

Do you see tcpip in the output of this command (as you want to use the TCPIP transport) ?

For testing X, better use

$ mc decw$examples:ico

as it gives more explanatory error messages.

Re: Problems with DEC WINDOWS

Did you try to add
-mode=console
to the installer?

And/or if it is a java installer:
-Djava.awt.headless=true

YES I DO

If so, then logon on that screen adn install Oracle.
TRIED THATS WHERE IT IS FAILING ON

YES I GET THIS

DAVE$ sea sys$startup:decw$startserver.com local
$! Make a local definition so can use as a verb
$ decw$server_transports == "decnet,local,tcpip"

$ mc decw$examples:ico

I GET THIS

DAVE$ mc decw$examples:ico
Xlib: connection to "_WSA7:" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server

Re: Problems with DEC WINDOWS

Roger,

if you are already logged in on the VGA screen, you don't need to do a SET DISPL/CREATE anymore !
