Problems with Extended File Cache (XFC)

We have recently experienced problems whereby files with the nocache attribute are still being loaded into the cache but being bypassed once loaded. As the files are Oracle RDB database files, the cache quickly gets fully consumed and memory resource becomes critical.

We have overcome the problem by mounting our database volumes nocache instead but would like to know why this problem was occuring and whether anyone else has experienced to problem.

Which OpenVMS version do you use? Essentially
XFC had various serious problems before 7.3-1

Re: Problems with Extended File Cache (XFC)

There is an XFC 100 patch out for 7.3-1. Not sure if that fixes your problem, but support will certainly ask you to install it :-)

Also you might want to have a look at SYS 300
