REXEC Service

Can somoeone explain what the REXEC process does? I've tried to look up what this process is, but most sites just indicate how to start (or enable) the service. Thanks!

Re: REXEC Service

Mark,

If you are referring to the same REXEC that I am thinking of, it is a remote execution facility that is part of the TCP/IP Suite.

What TCP/IP product are you using? For general information, Google "REXEC". For specific information, see the documentation for your TCP/IP stack.

Thanks for the quick response.

Re: REXEC Service

It would help to know what VMS version and TCP/IP stack/version you are running. At my site we have TCPIP$RE_BGnnn processes that are the server process for remote REXEC commands. Perhaps your TCP/IP stack names the first such process REXEC.

$ SHOW PROCESS/FULL/ID=x might give you some useful info, as well as...
$ ANALYZE/SYSTEM
SET PROCESS /ID=x
SHOW PROCESS/IMAGE
SHOW PROCESS/CHANNEL
I have one, but it's personal.

Sorry, was already entering my response before the last two replies.

Re: REXEC Service

Mark,

OpenVMS 5.5-2 and TCP/IP 4.0 are rather dated (circa mid 1990's). The current VAX version is 7.3 for OpenVMS; the corresponding TCP/IP release would be one of the 5.x releases.

For the details of REXEC on that version, dig out the manuals for TCP/IP.
