Re: RX2660 and device naming under VMS

IIRC, the third letter (A,B,C...) depends on the location of the controller on the PCI bus. 'First' controller becomes 'A', second 'B' etc. So if you want the internal disk on A, be sure that controller is seen 'first'. Quite likely this will be the case. Next borads will then be "B" and "C".
Disks are than addressed by their LUN (Logical Unit Number), typically a jumper somewhere on the disk, the location in the shelf of defined by the controller software if your disk are in a SAN.
Once you know how this is set up, it is unlikely to change over time unless you swap boards or disks. I don't think this a regular exercise.
You'd better get accustomed to logicals because that will make your life (and that of programmers and application managers) a lot simpler: it hides the technical and therefore ugly detail for the user. Moving allpication programs or data is just changing the logical (after moving, of course).

Re: RX2660 and device naming under VMS

Hello,

I finally got my hands on a RX2660.

It seems the scanning order is:
- Internal devices: Ethernet and SCSI
- PCI option in slot 3 (bottom)
- PCI option in slot 2 (middle)
- PCI option in slot 1 (top)

included is my clue config output.
