Reseting Login Prompt After CPU Halt

We have pressed the halt button on our alphas and typed continue to restart the cpu again.

Having halted we are unable to login @ opa0:

I know a @sys$startup:decw$startup restart can be done for dec windows to reset DTLOGIN/DTGREET.

However we are not using Dec Windows / motif!

Is it possible to reset the login so we can login @ opa0: again?

TIA

Hi Billy,
you aren't using Motif; this means you are using VT serial console?
If true, show terminal characteristcs and mainly Owen, Device type and tyoe ahead.

Ant,

We have a TFT on the box but have turned DECwindows off by setting the sysgen parameter window_system = 1.

Cheers.

Re: Reseting Login Prompt After CPU Halt

AFAIK, OPA0 is character-cell oriented, so you don't need DecWindows anyway. a plain would normally prompt you for username.
But more settings may be required, so pleas inform about:

What type of Alpha are you talking about, What type is OPA0: VT-like, or a PC (using terminal emulation)?
What port is it connected to (if applicable)?

Re: Reseting Login Prompt After CPU Halt

What does >>> SHOW CONSOLE indicate?
serial or graphics?
Setting WINDOW_SYSTEM = 1 will turn it ON,
not OFF. Set it to 0 to turn it off.
