SDLT 160/320 and OpenVMS 7.1-1H2
Can SDLT 160/320 work OK with OpenVMS 7.1-1H2 (on AS1200)? I see no reason why not but did anyone try it.

I'd say so. It rather depends on the type on drive or library you use. Choose one and see an compatibility matrix.

Re: SDLT 160/320 and OpenVMS 7.1-1H2
my expectations were wrong. I haven't found support for SDLT for your VMS version on AS1200. The minimal ver. is 7.2. Please recheck on http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/options/as1200/as1200_15_84_options_sorted.html#OptListHead

Re: SDLT 160/320 and OpenVMS 7.1-1H2
If HP doesn't support it, it wont say it will not work. Actualy it says, 'we didn't test it yet'.
If you got a drive: Test it.
If you are thinking of purchasing one: I wouldn't do it because of the price and the risk of not working.
If you can make a deal with you're reseller 'If it wont work, return it', I would do it.
The SDLT is fast and has a lot of potential.
I don't have the time of testing it, otherwise I would do it because I got a SDLT160/320. Sorry.

Re: SDLT 160/320 and OpenVMS 7.1-1H2
Are there any REAL reasons for NOT upgrading VMS?
7.1-1H2 (and all other 7.1, & 7.2, as well as 7.3 & 7.3-1) are NO longer supported.
Plus, 7.3-2 offers several improvements and new goodies. (Amongst them SDLT support).
If you have no real functional inhibitors, do yourself the favor of upgrading!
Proost.
Have one on me.
