-SYSTEM-F-REJECT Telneting to DS700

We had to swap out a DS700 when 1 died. I don't know how old it is but had been configured. I can SET HOST/MOP to it but I get
%TELNET-E-CONNFAIL, Failed to connect to remote host
-SYSTEM-F-REJECT, connect to network object rejected

when telneting. I've compared to another DS700 which I telnet to (SHOW SERVER, etc) and see no differences. I'm attaching SHOW SERV output

What does SHOW INTERNET say? Around here:

Local> show internet

Internet Address: 10.0.0.34
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

And mine (DECserver 90TL) works:

alp $ telnet an1
%TELNET-I-TRYING, Trying ... 10.0.0.34
%TELNET-I-SESSION, Session 01, host an1, port 23
-TELNET-I-ESCAPE, Escape character is ^]

There may be a difference between
"configured" and "configured the same".

Re: -SYSTEM-F-REJECT Telneting to DS700

Have you read the manual for the DECserver 700 series box? I'd expect these documents to be available at or via Vnetek (the folks that own the DECserver product line) or to be posted around the Internet, if you don't have copies locally.

I don't see anything in what was posted on the IP configuration; this usually involves setting up the host address and often the port numbers using DECserver commands including CHANGE TELNET LISTENER, et al.

Colin Blake has made available a presentation on various and sundry DECserver widgets that might get you going. That document is posted here:

Re: -SYSTEM-F-REJECT Telneting to DS700

I can't find a manual and am relying entirely on HELP. I think I see the problem.
Frem SHOW TELNET LISTEN ALL the one that works shows:
Listener TCP-port: 23 Listener Type: TELNET
Identification: Telnet Console
Ports: Console
Connections: Enabled

the one the doesn't:
Listener TCP-port: 23 Listener Type: TELNET
Identification:
Ports: None
Connections: Enabled

I can't SET/DEF PORT 23 because it's out of range. How to I associate 23 with console?

Thanks, Doug

Re: -SYSTEM-F-REJECT Telneting to DS700

Doug,

here is a pointer to an old version of the 'Ethernet Communicationsns Server
Management Guide'

http://www.sysworks.com.au/disk$axpdocsep002/network/ds70011c/d3knaa74.bkb

Chapter 2.4.2 seems to suggest, that a CLEAR/PURGE TELNET LISTENER 23 'reassigns port 23 as a Telnet remote console port'.

try

def telnet listener 23 ports console

hope this helps

Thanks Volker,

That worked, and it was buried in HELP under CLEAR/PURGE which is a path I did not take until reading your posting. That documented you pointed me to has a funky font.

Doug,

It looks like an attempt to make Bookreader Format files readable via HTML.

Well, I strongly suspect this is supposed to read
Colin __ Butcher___ has etc, especially as he IS xdelta / UK, and specializes (ao) in thing networking related.
