Anyway - We are looking at moving Sybase from OpenVMS to Solaris and access the DB from OpenVMS using the Sybase client component.
So we will have - OpenVMS 7.3-2, Sybase client V10.0.4 or latest version of client for OpenVMS (Think this is V10) and want to access the latest Version of Sybase and DB on Solaris. We will install latest version of sybase on solaris (V15 I think ?) .
Anyone doing anything simular ? I know someone who does this to V12 of sybase on solaris from OpenVMS V7.3-2 , with a V10 Client.
Regards
Kevin

Re: Sybase
But think about :
1) Solaris down = VMS down
2) Network down = VMS down
3) Performance : all the data goes thu the network. This may slow down the application. We see a big difference between the client running on the sybase server node or on a member of the same cluster (thus via tcp to the other node).
But if you go thru, please let us know your findings.

Re: Sybase
No serious problems, but remember: Sybase Openclient on OpenVMS is NOT SUPPORTED by Sybase!

Sybase is dropping support for some ODBC client connections:

The other obvious approach is to ping Sybase and ask them.
I'm not running this particular combination; just working on getting Solaris (x86) up and running, and working with MySQL and PostgreSQL (no Sybase) on Mac OS X Server.

Re: Sybase
No management had a change of mind and we will not be going down that route.
We currently run Sybase on OpenVMS and will for a few more years yet.
Thanks
Kevin
