T4$now errors when run

It's my understanding that the T4$now command procedure will allow me to gather up what has been logged for the day up until this point. When I run it on my system it runs into problems. The resulting file is unreadable by TLVIZ. This is being run on a 8.3 Alpha with recent patches (within 6 months). T4 version appears to be 4.3.

Has anyone seen anything similar? Any ideas?

Re: T4$now errors when run

It is my understanding that the "T4$" prefix is too similar to the previously registered "T3$" prefix to have made it registerable. But why ask Didgital/Compaq/HP(VMS) to adhere to their own standards/conventions I suppose?

Anyway nothing to do with your question so I'll be off; don't mind me.

Re: T4$now errors when run

Does it not work only with this special monitor data file (it's quite big) or is it a general problem? Perhaps you should call HP.

I am using still V4.0 (had some issues with V4.3) but the T4$MON_EXTRACT image from the V4.3 kit.

Re: T4$now errors when run

Try using the SYSTEM account when you execute the T4$NOW procedure.

No joy, same errors as before.

Re: T4$now errors when run

T4 has had an occasional habit of blowing out downstream tools.

As a guess, you're past what T4 can itself deal with here.

Ring up HP. (It looks to be a compact reproducer, too.)

IIRC, MONITOR can select data from a recording file for inclusion in a (smaller) output file; to use MONITOR to reduce the quantity of the performance data. Then feed the results into T4.

Re: T4$now errors when run

T4 email address bounced. I contacted HP but this is not a supported product. What I finally ended up doing after reviewing the command tables was to edit out the t4$now.com file and remove the parameter for disks from the T4extr line. It works but all the data from a normal T4 pull is not there.

Re: T4$now errors when run

I finally had to adjust T4 to handle the number of storage units on this cluster. Maybe if I get the source code I can do more to actually fix this limitation.

Re: T4$now errors when run

Mike,

try to contact Steve Liemann via www.trendsthatmatter.com with this issue. IIRC, he was one of the guys behind t4@hp.com when he was with HP.

He's not a programmer, but he sure knows who is.
