TCP/IP Configuration on IA64 Node

Hello,

$mc lancp
LANCP> sho dev
TSTNOD Device Listing, volatile database (27-OCT-2009 04:11:00.31):
Device
------
EIA0
EIB0
EIC0
EID0
EIE0
EIF0
LANCP>

Enter configuration option: 6
Begin Startup...

%TCPIP-I-INFO, TCP/IP Services startup beginning at 27-OCT-2009 03:38:44.99
%TCPIP-I-NORMAL, timezone information verified

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS requires either DHCP to be
configured or alternately, you must manually configure an
address, a hostname, and a domain name. HP TCP/IP Services
for OpenVMS will not start until these are configured.

DHCP - NOT configured.
Domain - NOT configured.

%TCPIP-E-STARTFAIL, failed to start TCP/IP Kernel
-
-TCPIP-I-DOCONFIG, configure TCP/IP Services before starting

Can anyone assist me to configure tcpip services on ia64 node.I tried to configure but i am getting error which you can see above.

Regards,
Sumant

Ok.

Should I assume that you're running
TCPIP$CONFIG.COM? (Should I need to
_assume_ anything?)

Did you try option "A"?:

A - Configure options 1 - 4

(The first thing you tried was step _6_? Why
not go straight to step 7 ("Run tests")?)

There are manuals for this stuff:

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/index.html

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/os83_index.html

(You _are_ working with VMS V8.3, I assume
(again).)

Re: TCP/IP Configuration on IA64 Node

Sumant,

LANCP shows us the network ports that your system has but tells us little (nothing) about what you are trying to do with TCP/IP.
TCP/IP requires the IP address to be configured via TCPIP$CONFIG.COM or by DHCP. If you're using DHCP then you also need to configure this fact via TCPIP$CONFIG.COM

My approach to configuring TCPIP is:
@TCPIP$CONFIG
then select option 1 and populate interfaces, domains etc
then select options 2 and 3 for the client and server services that you need (telnet, telnetsym, ftp, bootp, rexec, rlogin etc)
If I'm running DECnet Plus then I finally go in and configure the PWIP driver in menu option 4.

Once I've done all that, THEN I try and start the TCP/IP stack. Before it knows what it's doing for addresses it can't and won't start. Even if it does it needs to know what services to run.

The Fine Manuals are a great help here, either from the website, paper copy or CD. As suggested, Reading The Fine Manual can help.

In addition to the information posted above, see the System Manager's Manual volume 2 at http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/82final/aa-pv5nj-tk/aa-pv5nj-tk.html for network configuration options. Ensure your interfacesa are configured. Consider using LAN fail over with multiple NICs.
