Re: TCPIP Service ECO5

As pointed out by Steven, " a little consistency woutd be nice!"

It seemed to me that the layered_products folder was clearly the most appropriate place to put it, however if, as Steven claims, TCPIP is tightly aligned to the OS version, then I really needs to be available under all versions to which it applies.

Given Stevens comment, plus the fact that the description specifies v8.2, and it is located in folder V8.2, I am really not comfortable installing this on V8.3-1H1.

I really didn't think there was a strong coupling between TCPIP versions and OpenVMS versions!

Re: TCPIP Service ECO5

Dave,

I can assure you, TCPIP V5.6 is the current version of TCPIP for OpenVMS V8.2 and later !

If you look back at the TCPIP V5.6 ECO 1 release notes for OpenVMS I64, it says:

'2.3 Version(s) of OpenVMS to which this kit may be applied:

OpenVMS Alpha V8.2 and later'

I probably means: OpenVMS I64 V8.2 or later

The structure and kind of information presented in the release notes has changed with TCPIP V5.6 ECO 4 (released 22-JUL-2009) ahs changed and unfortunatley left out the 'or later' string.

Re: TCPIP Service ECO5

Dave,

the DECUServe ECO notes conference is a good resource for viewing current and older OpenVMS release notes:

Re: TCPIP Service ECO5

I note the wording now says

2.3 Version(s) of OpenVMS to which this kit may be applied:

OpenVMS Integrity servers V8.2 and later

and the date is now 6-MAR-2010

>>>Over the past 2 years or so we've seen far too many patch kits being re-issued to fix things or update things - without the necessary rigour being applied to file naming, file locations, version numbering and documentation.

And HP is certified ISO 9002, and many others I guess...

It would be funny if we were in the mood for laughing

Re: TCPIP Service ECO5

Thanks for the information and the clarification guys.

I still think that the ECO kits need to be included in the OS Version folder for all versions that it applies to.

Why would I (or should I) look for a product under a VMS Version I am not running???

Re: TCPIP Service ECO5

I note the TCPIP kits moved yesterday to
the layered products directory

ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/openvms_patches/layered_products/i64/

ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/openvms_patches/layered_products/alpha/

HP is listening :-)
