TCPIP to serial port on decserver how and Does it work!

I am just gathering information on how to setup decserver on OpenVMS Using TCPIP so to have serial port 'permanently'setup and just pass all characters to port.

In other words what 'meta script' does one use for remplacing LAT on decserver by TCPIP on a decserver so that it transperantly passe on all characters to port and devices attached to port.

an attached example file and pointers are most welcome.

enjoy, life.

Hello

Would do you want to do, get data, or print ?

See the reference on Hoffman Labs
http://64.223.189.234/node/129
about IP Network printing...

I search for a good example of "how to get data when migrating from Lat to Telnet"...

By the way, what you have up to now using Lat is

the part about
Connecting out to a Modem or a Console

Re: TCPIP to serial port on decserver how and Does it work!

Thanks, Labadie.

This question is kind of generic and more about gathering information on what it means, implies to pass all decserver from Lat to TCPIP.

At this gathering info stage I am more interested by how to setup a permanent port on a decserver 700 using TCPIP to an 'intelligent Dos PC' serial connection.

Hope this answers your questions?

Re: TCPIP to serial port on decserver how and Does it work!

Jean-Pierre,

As has been noted, reverse telnet does exist, and within published guidelines, works.

However, I would refer you to the IO Users Guide (available on the OpenVMS WWW site) for the abilities and limitations of LAT vis-a-vis Telnet. Some information that is visible to the host side on a LAT connection will not be visible on a telnet connection. Additionally, check the documentation for the relevant IP implementation, some mechanisms may be accessible and some less so.

In the end, it depends on what your application needs.

Is this note from Ask the Wizard helpful

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/wizard/wiz_3280.html

There is the Tcpip doc
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/83final/6526/BA548_90006.PDF
the part about
Configuring and managing Serial Lines
