Tape problem

I get this error whenever I try to mount the tape drive :

$:> mou/for $2$MGA1:
%MOUNT-F-DRVERR, fatal drive error

Even if the drive id offline I get this error.

Any idea what can resolve the issue ?

Thanks

Re: Tape problem

Versions ? How's the drive connected ?

SYSMAN IO AUTO may help. A power cycle of the drive too. Replacing it too.

Re: Tape problem

Tried IO Auto and swapped the drives...

Making things worse after swapping....
Rebooted tape library several times...

Any other way to get rid of the error without rebooting...

Thanks

Re: Tape problem

This is a Fibre Channel tape. You need to follow the guidelines for Fibre Channel Tape Support:

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/82final/6318/6318pro_010.html#fctapes

You can't just switch tapes and expect it to work...

Re: Tape problem

Check

mc sysman help io find_wwid

for updating sys$devices.

run "io find_wwid" before "io auto"

..and you might want to check your nsr mappings on the library side.

Re: Tape problem

Even worrse. We once had that error with an MSL directly connected to a GS160. A new drive was to0m replace the old one. The wrong type of drive was delivered so we put the original back in. It worked again.
