Temp and more measuring on a DS25

Hi there,

Is it possible to get some environmental information in OpenVMS (DCL) on a DS25, such as:

- temp
- active power supplies
- and more ...

Thanks.

So, it is not possible to know how warm it is on a DS25.

Is there a way to know how many power supplies are active at this moment?

Greetings and thanks.

Re: Temp and more measuring on a DS25

The HP official way was (is?) probably via WBEM / WBES / SEA / Insight Management stuff and the HP monitoring and related tools, or via the eSNMP MIBs as available.

The MIBs are described in some versions of the OpenVMS manuals. Start here: http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/73final/6017/6017pro_107.html
Off-hand, I don't know if the AlphaServer DS25 has the DSM SMI (sub)agents. (It almost looks like this stuff might have fallen out of the documentation. Go figure.)

Also:
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/82final/6530/6530pro_contents.html

The APIs into the system-level information were (are?) below the level of the Alpha architecture, so they were (are?) optional, subject to change, and often platform-specific.

The I2C stuff existed only on specific of the Alpha boxes.

Another way you can potentially get at this information on systems such as the AlphaServer DS25 series is via the rmc, the remote management console. You can set up alerts and other such from out there on the rmc. The rmc can dial into a radio pager, for instance. With an out-board server, you can certainly also pick up information and alerts generated on the rmc port.

As for application programs, the first spot I'd tend to look is at the eSNMP MIBs, if they're around for your box. Yes, that's not nearly as clean nor as easy as having a direct DCL interface into this stuff and this information... I don't know that there's a MIB out on the rmc itself (and would tend to doubt that), though that or some sort of an XML or "parse-able" output would be really slick.

Re: Temp and more measuring on a DS25

Thanks for your answer.

The problem I want to solve is as follows:

A DS25 with three power supplies wil be rebooted. At that moment only two powersupplies are working. How to signal this?

There will be no alarm message on the console, so no way to signal this.
