UCX license strange
a couple days ago my DS10L with 8.3 losts network.
When reboot I can see errors:
TCPIP SERVER ERROR
TCPIP-IP-CLIENT PAK IS NOT ENABLED
in DECTerm I can ping myself via
192.168.1.6 (this address is on the first interface with cable connected, but the led is off, cable is definetely good)
Restarting TCPIP via TCPIUP$CONFIG.COM shows me success without any error.
$SHOW LIC
.....
UCX DEC 0 0 100 0.0 none 25-NOV-2010
UCX-IP-CLIENT DEC 0 0 100 0.0 none 25-NOV-2010
UCX-IP-NFS DEC 0 0 100 0.0 none 25-NOV-2010
UCX-IP-RT DEC 0 0 100 0.0 none 25-NOV-2010
It seems all licenses needed are in the system.
What can be wrong?
I tried to reinstall licenses - without success.

Re: UCX license strange
you should be able to see these error message as well with:
$ @SYS$MANAGER:TCPIP$CONFIG
If there are no TCPIP license, messages will be shown in the menue to that effect.
What does $ SHOW TIME return ?
Volker.

try
$ tcpip check license
$ sho sym/global tcpip$license*

Re: UCX license strange
so you're saying that the license check only fails during SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM and not when run interactively ?!
Add a $ SHOW LIC UCX* before invoking @SYS$STARTUP:TCPIP$STARTUP.COM from your startup procedure.
Where does LMF$LICENSE point to ?
Volker.

Re: UCX license strange
No, and never had - I'm hobby user.
$ tcpip check license
shows nothing
(BTW, as like at my DEC 2000/300 with 7.3-2, that is feeling fine in network)
$ sho sym/global tcpip$license*
undefined symbol
I mean tcpip$config.com starts TCPIP without any error, but network still down.
I can ping myself, but not anything else. It looks like network adapter is switchoff.

Re: UCX license strange
I can start it interactively without any error but without success too.
It fairly send me messages that tcpip kernel has been started, various telnet/ssh/ftp ....
but network led still off.
The error
TCPIP SERVER ERROR I can see only during boot process.
It is totally looked very closer to I had bad network adapter/cable, except that message at boot time
TCPIP SERVER ERROR
TCPIP-IP-CLIENT PAK IS NOT ENABLED
And I'm *sure* I had good both.

Re: UCX license strange
$ TCPIP CHECK LICENSE sets the TCPIP$LICENSE* global symbols. It does NOT issue any message !
In which startup procedure are you starting TCPIP ? Are the licenses already loaded at that time ?
Does TCPIP SHOW INT show an interface ?
Does SHOW DEV E show a LAN interface ?
Volker.
