USB with ES40 68/833??

We've just purchased a pre-owned ES40 68/833 AlphaServer, and I'm looking into using it's two USB ports. But, according to the VMS 7.3-2 new features manual, the USB Configuration Manager can only be used with EV7 processors. Does this mean that the USB ports on my system are useless?

Thanks!

Re: USB with ES40 68/833??

Craig,

sorry, but there is no USB support by OpenVMS on the ES40. USB support started with the MARVEL platform (EV7 systems).

Craig,
Welkom to the ITRC forum.

be sure to check out:

and at some point:

I suspect that the Ev7 processor support refers the a point in time, a release version, rather than an actual Ev7 having to be in the system... but I may be wrong.
Also, that new features manual only talks about the UCM tool, not about USB support... but again, i may well be wrong.

If you have a chance to be in Nashua, NH next week, then be sure to stop in on:
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/symposium/june_2005/i211.html. Mr USB will tell all!

[I'll poke Forest to cheque out this topic. Maybe he can ad some words of wizdom]

Curious... what USB devices do you hope to use, and how? For example, the USB support migth well recognize a memory stick or disk drive, but does not come with a FAT mount option or tool.

hth,
Hein.

Re: USB with ES40 68/833??

I'm looking into options for connecting our two LG12 system printers to the ES40. I found some adapters, cables, etc. at cablestogo.com that looked like they MIGHT have enabled me to use the two USB ports on the ES40.
I won't be at Nashua, but if you find out anything, let me know!!!!

Thanks!
