Use OpenVMS floppy

Hello,

I have some files that I want to move onto OpenVMS from Windows.

No problem to copy those files on the floppy, from Windows, but I when I try to copy those files from the floppy drive to OpenVMS the problem arise. Any suggestions? If some of you could give me a cookbook it would be great.

Geir

Re: Use OpenVMS floppy

Geir,

this if from looooong ago, and an aging memory, but I seem to remeber having done this by:

$ MOUNT/FOREIGN

$ EXCHANGE ....

For the specifics of your situation, I hope
$ HELP EXCHANGE holds enough info.

..

If you have regular needs for this, have a look at:

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.os.vms/browse_frm/thread/639a3dbdd6cb60a3/045963a8ded11c31?hl=en#045963a8ded11c31

maybe it will be of use to you (or maybe not).

Let us know if / how you succeed, please?

Proost.

Have one on me.

Re: Use OpenVMS floppy

Geir,

the OpenVMS FAQ has a couple of pointers to tools, which can read DOS floppies on OpenVMS:

Have a look into the VMS Freeware (HP OpenVMS web site):
the program package WINFX does what You want.

Geir,

There is a program called PCDISK which is a part of Pathworks and Advanced Server.

Re: Use OpenVMS floppy

Geir,

Does your alpha has a cd-player. I know this is not the best solution, but I normaly do this by CD. Create on Windows (a single session) CD and mount this CD on VMS using mount/over and the files are there. One nastynes is all the files will be (for VMS) 8.3 . So the long files on Windows needs a little help for VMS site.

Re: Use OpenVMS floppy

Hi Geir,
I used PCDISK and works fine. If you have pathwork it's the best solution.
