Re: User reference for OpenVMS Newbee
Nicolas,
if you will use vms as hobbyst you can:
1) Download hobbyst license form here http://www.openvmshobbyist.org/
2) Install vms (it's very simple for your needing)
3) Use it and read help.
Vms is some different from unix: have a unique shell called CLI and unique script language called DCL; scripting language is very powerful (more then cshell).
In vms there doesn't exist path to run program; you can simply create new command.
Vms has device and qualifier of command use slash (as windows).
File system is case insensitive.
Now you could discover other characteristics using vms and when you'll post here, you'll find always someone can help you.
Welcome to vms world :-)

Re: User reference for OpenVMS Newbee
Noticed the jaded review which prompted this note. Perhaps those who own this book should contribute their review to provide some balance.
I read this, and some of his reviews (said to be one of the top-500? Given the number of reviews, just barely...) and I'm not impressed. He may know a lot but not in IT, for what I've seen.
He doesn't, and given his remark, he never did. So he doesn't knwo what he's taking about.
HE's the dead end. Not VMS

Re: User reference for OpenVMS Newbee
Nicolas,
Continue on your VMS journey.
And now that I've thought about the "dead end" on Amazon, was this a book review? I think not.
I once again suggest to others here that have the book, please write a review.
Dave...
