Re: VMS NFS and Windows SFU

VMS NFS and Windows SFU

Is there anyone who is using the NFS client included in Microsofts Windows Services for UNIX with VMS NFS (HP TCPIP) ?

I haven't tested (yet), just wondering if it is worth trying...

You probably need to enable PCNFS to get it going.

We ended up scrapping it and recommending Xlink NFS client as it supports UID and GID and is relatively easy to set up. Only snag is that the V3 client support doesn't quite work against OpenVMS.

The CIFS Samba stuff, or Advanced Server or PATHWORKS Server, would be far more friendly to most Microsoft Windows users.

There is a CIFS Samba field test presently available from HP OpenVMS Engineering -- CIFS is the upgrade path for Advanced Server and PATHWORKS Server. And -- unlike those other SMB packages mentioned -- it's likely to be a free product download akin to Apache or Mozilla.

To answer your question, yes, I've heard of sites using SFU with the OpenVMS NFS (PCNFS) Servers. Here are a few discussions:

Microsoft support for the SFU product is reportedly retiring in 2011:

Because they're moving that integration deeper into the OS and a layered SFU product will simply not be needed in the future, no?

Re: VMS NFS and Windows SFU

Thanks. Will try to get SFU working.
This is for a development environment.
