I went to install the update patch on my AlphaServer 2000 today and keep getting this:
$ @ sys$update:vmsinstal VMS732_UPDATE DISK$WOLF:[UPDATES.ALP]
OpenVMS AXP Software Product Installation Procedure V7.3-2
It is 5-NOV-2005 at 08:07.
Enter a question mark (?) at any time for help.
%VMSINSTAL-W-ACTIVE, The following processes are still active:
SETI@home 99%
TCPIP$IMAP_1
TCPIP$NTP_1
TCPIP$XDM_1
WWW server 80
WWW_253
Penguin Lust
* Do you want to continue anyway [NO]? y
* Are you satisfied with the backup of your system disk [YES]?
%VMSINSTAL-E-NOPRODS, None of the specified products were found.
VMSINSTAL procedure done at 08:07
I even have re-downloaded the compressed patch and uncompressed it. I have never seen this before.
Anyone have any ideas? I have some production systems that I was going to install this patch on soon, but wanted to test on box.
Note, all the patches in this update are already installed (including the recent MUP), but that does look like the reason for the above error. It is complaining about the name, right?
The file seems fine to me:
dir /full DEC-AXPVMS-VMS732_UPDATE-V0500--4.PCSI;1

Solution
Rick,
your update is a PCSI kit.
Those you do NOT instal with VMSINSTAL, but with the PCSI command PRODUCT,, function INSTAL, with /SOURCE to specify where the kit can be found.
So:
$ PROD INSTAL DEC-AXPVMS-VMS732_UPDATE-V0500 /source=DISK$WOLF:[UPDATES.ALP]
Succes!
Proost.
Have one on me.
jpe

Re: VMS732_UPDATE v5 Problem
My goodness! (I am not really saying that kind words to myself, just trying to keep it clean!)
What a bonehead mistake!
Of course, thank you for that!
